- Mark the day you first get your menstrual flow on the calendar and continue to do this for at least 6 months so you can start getting an idea of how your menstrual cycle works.
- Subtract 18 from the total number of days in your shortest cycle. So if your shortest cycle was 26 days, take 26-18 and you get 8. This means that you could ovulate as early as day 8 of your cycle.
- Look at your longest cycle and subtract 11 from it. If your longest cycle lasted 30 days, take 30-11 to get 19. This means that you may ovulate as late as day 19 of your cycle.
- Mark on your calendar the next time you start your cycle. This is day 1. Count on your calendar 8 days from day 1 and circle that day. This means that during this cycle you can ovulate as early as day 8.
- Count on your calendar 19 days from day 1 and circle this day as well. You can ovulate as late as day 19 of this cycle.
- Realize that (in this example) you can ovulate anytime during the period of day 8 through 19 and these will be the days that you will want to concentrate your energy into getting pregnant.
